When you visit the shelter, there is a slideshow of all of our available dogs. We like to ask a few questions about what kind of dog you are looking for. Then, we bring up any dogs you are interested in or that we think might be the right fi t for your home. We only know what we know about the dogs at the shelter. We do NOT test cats with dogs at the shelter (it is not fair to our cats), but you are welcome to bring in your own cat in a carrier for a meet and greet with any of our dogs. We do not require meet and greets with other dogs in your home, but you are welcome to bring your dog to the shelter to do that.

For cats, we have a large room where we allow potential adopters and volunteers to meet and play with the cats. Once a dog or cat feels like the right fi t, we ask for some information, a copy of your driver’s license, and we accept card and cash for the adoption fee. The pet can go home that same day! We do not allow people to place “holds” on animals.

Foster homes save lives! A foster home frees up a kennel here at the shelter while allowing an animal a real home to live in. All of our animals are available to foster, but our greatest needs are ones that need extra medical attention, older animals, small breed dogs, and young cats/kittens. While a foster, we provide everything you may need as well as cover costs of any medical care the animal may require while in your care. Fosters also have first dibs when it comes to adopting that specific pet!

We receive approximately ⅓ of our funding from the City of Logansport to shelter and care for cats and dogs within the city limits. We receive some additional funding from the County to shelter and care for dogs within the county limits. The shelter is responsible for providing the rest. We rely heavily on donations and fundraising to fill in gaps for funding!

We currently have 30 dogs and 43 cats at the shelter. We have an additional 26 animals in foster homes.

Animals at the shelter are not euthanized based on length of stay. We strive to be a no-kill shelter, which by definition means that 90% of animals that come through our doors have a live outcome. We do not euthanize for space, but we do make choices based on aggression and medical issues beyond hope.

Stop in the shelter during our open hours and talk to one of our staff! There is always a job for a volunteer to do and we are happy to have you lend a helping hand.

As a humane society, we want to help all pet owners when we are able, no matter their circumstance. Our shelter has a food pantry that offers assistance to those in need. You may visit the pantry every two weeks and receive a gallon sized baggie of pet food or cat litter for the number of pets you have. We ask that you show your driver’s license and we keep a folder with your information in the office. We also have options for low-cost spay and neuter programs, as well as low-cost cremation services. The shelter is also happy to discuss with pet owner’s low-cost vaccine options and low-cost flea/tick/heartworm prevention by appointment.
